The Weather Channel for iPad 3.0.0 App: 3D Globe, Weather Tweets & iWitness Weather

The Weather Channel for iPad app got a major update this week to version 3.0.0. The update includes a completely new design, a 3D spinning globe (map), a news and social tab and HD video of news and weather forecasts. People using an iPad 2 will see animated weather backgrounds reflecting local conditions. The news and social tab includes weather news, tweets from Weather Channel experts and contributed weather photos from people nearby.

The weather interface shows five days of general weather conditions. Tapping a specific day provides more granular information (hourly) weather information. Tapping it again collapses the detailed view. The current conditions, 10-day forecase and hourly forecast can be shared via email, Twitter and Facebook. Ordinary users can contribute iWitness Weather reports and photographs. The news and social tab features a Tweet button to share information. However, it was not able to authenicate with my Twitter account for testing.

You can find this free app in the iTunes App Store.
