BeatCityFBTHQ, a longtime maker of mobile and console games, is promoting their upcoming DS title Beat City by porting a demo version for Facebook. The Nintendo DS userbase is probably quite similar to the casual Facebook gaming demographic, and this seems like a smart idea. By getting the game out there in front of the Facebook gaming audience, perhaps they can drum up anticipation for Beat City.

The demo has three separate areas of the game, and each of them are fully functional. When you enter the Facebook application, you are presented with an upright Nintendo DS graphic, and the gameplay occurs within the ‘screens’ for the DS. Your mouse cursor turns into a DS stylus, and you feel like you’ve just loaded up a Nintendo DS title.

What’s really remarkable is that they’ve completely redone several levels of the game in Flash, and the game itself is quite fun on Facebook. I wonder if they have plans to port the entire game, add microtransactions and release the game as a free-to-play Facebook title. That surely would have potential as the music genre is not fully baked on Facebook.
