Toddlers Love Their iPhones

Over the past couple of weeks, children’s story apps have dominated the Top Paid apps in the Books category in Apple’s app store. Dr. Seuss, Pocket God Comics and The Berenstain Bears are recent favorites. So it is no surprise that toddlers are choosing iPhones as some of their favorite toys.

The New York Times reports: “…just as adults have a hard time putting down their iPhones, so the device is now the Toy of Choice — akin to a treasured stuffed animal — for many 1-, 2- and 3-year-olds. It’s a phenomenon that is attracting the attention and concern of some childhood development specialists.”

The article talks about how toddlers love iPhones, but raises questions about whether this “screen time” is bad for childhood development. Parent rearing tactics aside, you can’t argue that reading is bad for little kids and as we evolve from print readers to digital readers, it makes sense for kids to grow up on eBooks. They’ll be ready for the future.
