Is Tumblr a blogging platform, a photo-sharing service or a social network? The company leaned closer to social network today, adding real-time notifications that users can see from their Tumblr dashboard.
The notifications show activity by those the user follows on Tumblr. Tiny pop-up windows appear and then fade away, much like they do in Facebook’s real-time notifications system.
In a staff blog, the company said it was “testing” the feature.
Users who don’t like the feature can turn it off from the settings page.
