Tumblr Asks iPhone and iPad Users to Update Their Apps and Passwords

In response to an issue that may have compromised users’ passwords, Tumblr has released a security update to its apps for iPhone and iPad.

The Yahoo-owned company announced the changes yesterday on the company blog, instructing users to download the updated apps and to change their passwords on Tumblr and other accounts that use the same passwords.

What caused the security problem is unclear, but Tumblr told TheNextWeb:

Earlier today, Tumblr was notified of a security vulnerability introduced in our iOS app. We immediately released an update that repairs the issue and are notifying affected users. We obviously take these incidents very seriously and deeply regret this error.
