Tumblr to Live-GIF New Year’s Eve Event in Times Square

GIFs, social media, social network, internet memes, During this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration at New York’s Time Square, New York-based Tumblr will help document the event with a steady stream of animated GIFs.

Topher Price, a Tumblr staffer, Ryan Broderick, a BuzzFeed staffer, and Lacey Micallef will work up the animated images from a headquarters on site. Their work will go immediately to the Gifwich Tumblr. The best images may make it to the event’s Livestream channel or even, potentially, on the big screen at Times Square.

Tumblr’s last Gifwich live-giffing event focused on the 2012 presidential debates.

“Now that we’re well past the 2012 elections — and our live-GIF debate initiative that made a positive difference in so many lives — we’ll be addressing an occasion with less gravitas and more confetti: the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square,” Chris Mahoney wrote on the Tumblr staff blog.

“This time, there’s fewer presidential candidates, a lot more celebs, and several million of your closest friends,” Mahoney added.
