Today may be an election of historic propositions, and it turns out Twitter is on the forefront. Twitter said in a statement that it wants to “bring increased accountability to the election” by allowing people to report on their trip to the polls through a Twitter site set up by political blog techPresident and a network of volunteers, according to MediaPost.

Here’s how it works: Twitter Vote Report lets voters alert others to potential problems such as long lines, missing registered voter names, and broken machines. “It follows other grassroots-oriented Election Day projects including Video Your Vote, the partnership between YouTube and PBS encouraging voters to upload videos of their experiences voting to the video-sharing site,” the article said.

Note (12:34 pm EST): We tried out the site and saw nothing but server connection errors, so it’s possible they’ve been overloaded with traffic.
