TweetMeme is throwing its hat into the URL-shortening ring with its debut of ReTwt.me Tuesday, TechCrunch reported.
ReTwt.me is tightly integrated with the TweetMeme button, but otherwise is similar to already-existing URL-shortening services, according to TechCrunch.
TweetMeme founder Nick Halstead said in an email explaining the reasons for launching ReTwt.me:
Firstly and foremost, “reliability.” We pride ourselves at TweetMeme for the continued uptime and scalability of the service. Going forward, we wanted to have “platform security” so that we always had a fallback position if any of the current shorteners either closed down or had any outages.
