Twitter Offering Data Grants to Researchers Who Uses Tweets for Studies

twitter304Twitter research is a burgeoning phenomenon that uses public tweets to mine historical, psychological, and even medicinal trends - so much so that the micro-blogging platform now offers its own data grants. Called Twitter Data Grants, the new program makes it easier to access more than 500 million tweets sent from users each day.

With more than 500 million Tweets a day, Twitter has an expansive set of data from which we can glean insights and learn about a variety of topics, from health-related information such as when andwhere the flu may hit to global events like ringing in the new year. To date, it has been challenging for researchers outside the company who are tackling big questions to collaborate with us to access our public, historical data.

The grant will give researchers easier access to already public information without developmental costs or technical prowess. To be considered, submit a proposal to Twitter by March 15. Questions about the Grant can be submitted to  data-grants@twitter.com. To see researchers already using Twitter data, go here.
