Where have you been, founder of the World Wide Web? We’ve been waiting for you.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee, if you’re not familiar with the name, is the guy without whom none of us would be Twittering, Facebooking, YouTubing or LOLcatting.
You see, back in 1989, the British engineer and computer scientist had an epiphany:
“I just had to take the hypertext idea and connect it to the Transmission Control Protocol and domain name system ideas and — ta-da! — the World Wide Web.”
(I had the same exact thought back then, and would have acted on it, but I had a softball game that night.)
Now, nearly two decades after he put the first website online, Sir Tim has joined the Twitterverse. He created an account (or at least posted his first tweet) sometime Thursday. Drum roll, please…
Ooops confusing user interfxce. And no phones on on stage with radiomikes.
I know, I expected more too. Hey, he may be the founder of the WWW, but around here he’s a Twitter newbie.
Despite his underwhelming debut, Berners-Lee already has more than 5,800 followers. While that’s very impressive, Sir Tim, there’s this guy named Ashton Kutcher…
