MocoNews reports that the mobile industry is looking for the next big news event that could drive traffic and create long-term users for the new medium in the U.S., now that the 2008 Beijing Olympics have finally come to a close. And based on “just a handful of events and announcements that have occurred within hours of the huge fireworks display at the closing ceremonies in Beijing, they have their hearts set on the U.S. presidential election.”
The report pointed to four key events: Barack Obama announcing his VP pick via text message (which didn’t go quite as planned), Google’s new mobile election portal, MediaFLO’s addition of CNBC, FOX News, and MSNBC to its 24/7 broadcast mobile TV channel portfolio, and Buzzwire’s dedicated DNC coverage.
