home.gifSo, looks like Universal Music Group (UMG)has signed a deal with online and mobile media platform provider Kyte, this according to Billboard. The worldwide agreement includes all UMG record labels and artists for the publishing of branded Kyte channels. UMG anticipates that artist content will include backstage/real life video, provided in real-time.

If Kyte can really help UMG centralize artist content and monetize it, which will include advertising and sponsorships, this is another way that mobile can prove-out beyond its bets on mobile music sales/distribution efforts. With the growing installed base of smartphones with video capabilities, this should help build potential audience and advertising/sponsorship opportunities behind popular, branded content.
