Yelp released an update to its iOS app today that shows users which friends are checked in to businesses in the local search results page.
The change echoes one recently made by Foursquare, with both apps moving becoming better able to physically connect users with their friends.
“Yelp search just got more social,” the company said in its description of the changes in the App Store.
The update will also show users which businesses are about to open or close in an apparent effort to chip away at the negative user experience of showing to a closed business.
The update throws in iPad optimization for venue pages, which will include more photos. The venue pages, when seen on an iPad, will also include Deals and restaurant menus.
According to Yelp, the app also introduces “huge speed improvements on iPhone5.”
