doerrJohn Doerr, the legendary VC from Kleiner Perkins that backed companies such as Google, Amazon and Intuit, was interviewed by PBS host Charlie Rose at the TechCrunch disrupt conference in Manhattan. His verdict: the web is facing massive reinvention via convergence of social media and mobile technologies that will pave ways for social commerce.

Doer feels like the iPad and other devices that provide full immersive experiences are creating a paradigmatic shift and are ripe for entrepreneurs to explore. Mobile devices coupled with ‘magical surfaces’ can be utilized in almost all situations, including church and concerts.

“We’ve entered a whole new applications economy, where all sorts of new applications of Web technology are being driven by the new relationships” being fostered by social media, “and this is turning the world around in a really exciting way,” Doerr stated passionately.

Doerr acknowledged moguls like Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg as missionaries, and commented on the impact social technologies will have on collaboration and social consciousness. In addition, Doerr cited Zynga as the “fastest-growing social venture” they have ever invested in. With a new age of social commerce dawning upon us, we also call forth all entrepreneurs and wantrepreneurs alike to embrace their vision and change this world for the better.
