Verizon Communications Inc on Monday said quarterly profit rose on strong wireless sales, apparently ignoring the weaker economy and offsetting yet another drop in landline users, according to Reuters.
The carrier reported picking up another 1.5 million subscribers—numbers that Sprint would kill for—bringing its total to 68.7 million in the U.S. However, the quarterly results showed it was continuing to lose traditional phone customers, the article said, with residential switched access lines falling 11.4 percent compared to the year-ago period.
