Verizon Wireless just launched a new service called Usage Controls, which lets subscribers better manage their mobile activity, MediaPost reports. It’s similar to Verizon’s pre-existing, Web-based parental controls, except that in this case, users can set limits on voice minutes, picture messaging, text messaging, video, and IM.
Here’s a key feature: “The service can also be used to restrict mobile data use and messaging during certain times of day and to create lists of blocked and ‘trusted’ numbers,” the report said. Any time you give the customer the ability to manage the way they spend money, it’s a good thing, and it reduces the impression that the wireless carriers just love to help you accidentally spend an extra $200 in a given month. Usage Controls costs $4.99 a month per line and requires Verizon subscribers have a nationwide calling plan, according to the report.
