Creator and writer Rob Thomas and actress Kristen Bell too the idea to Kickstarter, and, after a single day, the project has almost reached its $2 million goal. (As of this writing, the project had raised $1.9 million.)

Warner Brothers owns the rights to Veronica Mars, but allowed Thomas and Bell to try their hand at a Kickstarter campaign, Thomas said in the project’s blurb.

Bell thanked the show’s loyal fans.

“You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen. I promise if we hit our goal, we will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it’s-all-fun-and-games-‘til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can,” she wrote.

For $10,000 a single backer secured a speaking role in the film. Others earn the right to name minor characters in the film, provided the legal department okays the name (sorry, all you aspiring Stephen Colberts). A hundred contributors will attend the premier with cast and crew.

The only Kristen Bell-related appreciation package left is a voice mail for $350.
