Vevo has a new iPhone app in the works, which is set to launch next month. The app will let users easily watch Vevo’s huge catalog of music videos directly from their iPhones, as well as find local artists and watch their music videos using the iPhone’s location service.
Ben Parr of Mashable sat down with Vevo’s CEO, Rio Caraeff, last week and posted about some of the features of Vevo’s upcoming app. Users will be able to cycle through Vevo’s most popular videos as well as watch featured video clips and easily find the most popular videos of the moment. However, one of the coolest features of this app is that it gives users the ability to search for local artists in their own cities and watch their videos.
The location feature of the Vevo app will be great for local artists, as well as for music lovers who want to find some new local talent and attend local music shows. The local artist search will be limited to Vevo’s partners, however Parr writes that Vevo’s partners include a lot of artists, so it should be a pretty neat feature.
Vevo has been on a steady climb up the charts since their launch in December. Vevo clips are among the most-viewed videos on YouTube and the site has surpassed the likes of Hulu, Facebook and Fox Interactive Media in unique monthly viewers. The addition of an iPhone app is likely to make Vevo even more popular and it will be interesting to see how quickly their application takes off.
There is no set release date for the Vevo app, but the company expects to launch next month, pending Apple’s application review process. The company is also working on apps for Android and iPad. How does Vevo’s new iPhone app sound to you? If you have an iPhone, will you install it when it comes out?
