Viddy, the social video sharing site that has blown up over the past few months thanks to viral spread on Facebook, has opened up its API and is enticing developers to build on top of the Viddy platform with a $10,000 prize.
Team Viddy reported last night on the Viddy Developer blog, “Today at http://Developer.Viddy.com we are officially launching our public API, as well as a chance for developers to win a $10,000 Cash Prize and a trip to LA to interview for a position at Viddy!”
They report that, “During August and September we’ll work with you, and our developers, on adoption of the apps you build, as well as promotion to our 40 Million+ Viddy Community. On Friday, September 28th Team Viddy will pick our favorite API partner, and fly you (or your team of up to 4 people) to Venice Beach for an interview at Viddy.”
Developers interested in going for the big prize can find out how to create an account and gain access to the API on the Viddy Developers site.

Just months ago, when Viddy clips were flooding our Facebook feeds, analysts were asking whether apps like Viddy and SocialCam threatened YouTube’s dominance and countless journalists were calling Viddy “the Instagram of video.” But Facebook tweaked their algorithm and as Viddy has faded from our feeds we haven’t been hearing nearly as much about the social video sharing platform. Perhaps the new open API and the projects that result will bring Viddy back into the limelight again.
Developers—will you be partnering with Viddy in hopes of winning the 10 grand?
