Video: Nicholas Christakis Discusses The Hidden Influence of Social Networks

TedTalkLogoOne of the best talks at last year’s TED talk was Nicholas Christakis’ speech on “The Hidden Influence of Social Networks”. Nicholas talks about the importance of social relationships and how human emotions balloon out through social networks and affect the world around them. He starts with a fascinating story about a woman suffering from illness, and how it affected the world around her by touching a huge variety of points on her ‘social network’.

A whole series of the points that Nicholas makes could easily be applied to technological social networks, and his points on the translation of emotion through interaction are things that haven’t yet been quantified but will certainly be at some point. The video is quite short, at around 20 minutes, and will probably help you think about Social Networks in a new way.
