New Video Platform Asks How Far You’d Go To Raise Money For Charity

Just how far would you go to raise money for charity (or for yourself)?  Moolta, a video site that just launched today, lets users challenge their friends for charity or cash.  Co-founder and CEO Noam Schwartz calls it “YouTube and Kickstarter’s awesome love child.”  But with challenges like “shower in a public fountain,”  “go into a bar naked,” and “give Santa a lap dance in the middle of a shopping mall,” I call it an arrest waiting to happen!

Moolta is described in a press release as “an innovative video platform that enables anyone to challenge their friends for crowd-funded prizes and donations.”  How does it work?  Just choose a friend, choose a challenge and add a cash prize or charity donation to entice your friend to follow through on the dare.

Prize money is raised by sharing the challenge with friends and having everyone chip in.  Once enough money is raised and the challenge is accepted, your friend must upload a video proving that they completed the task.  Challenges to raise money for charity are funded via a partnership that Moolta has with FirstGiving.com, which enables users to raise and donate money to thousands of charities around the United States.

According to the press release, “Moolta also gives you the chance to win prizes by taking on sponsored challenges.  Choose the challenge you like, upload proof and receive your prize.”  Current sponsored challenges including eating a big bowl of spaghetti with a fork blindfolded for $150, hugging a stranger for 10 seconds for $100, and singing an order at a drive thru restaurant for $200.

Schwartz says, “We’re excited to launch, but it’s just the beginning for us.  We have many surprising new features and partnerships on the way.”
