Are Videographics Going To Topple The Infographic Fad?

Infographics have taken over “Teh Interwebz.”  There are infographics on every topic you can imagine, from online video stats to business trends and even the curious question of how many people use social media on the toilet!  You can even turn your resume into an infographic.  But the folks behind online presentation tool PowToon believe that videographics are the new wave of infographics and, to that end, they’ve made it easy for users to turn plain old infographics into moving video stories.

PowToon CEO Ilya Spitalnik told us, “Infographics became popular when tools like Piktochart made it easy for practically anyone to create them.  But videoinfographics have always been more high-impact than static images.  Until now, though, there wasn’t an easy or affordable way for the layperson to bring their data to life in an animated format.  PowToon provides the next step in this media evolution — allowing anyone and everyone to take beautiful infographics and transform them into powerful videographic stories.”

Powtoon makes it simple for users to create animated presentations and videos by simply dragging and dropping animated characters, props and transitions.  Check out the video below to find out more.

While PowToon originally launched a few months ago as a site dedicated to presentations, they’ve discovered that more and more users are utilizing the PowToon platform to create animated video infographics, or videographics.

A press release reports that, “An emerging trend in this ecosystem are Videographics.  These presentations feel familiar to anyone who has seen the informative and viral infographics that have become staples of popular blogs and social networks.  Videographics are building on the same concepts as infographics, but wrap the information into an animated video that is radically more informative and engaging.”

As an example, custom infographic design studio Infolicious is using PowToon to move into the videographic market.  Check out the “PowToon” below to see how Infolicious is using the platform (as well as to glean some interesting facts about the infographic and videographic markets).

Do you find videographics more engaging than infographics?  Do you think video is going to overtake static images when it comes to data visualization? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
