Last fall, Vimeo began launching features to help creators make more money. It started with the launch of the Tip Jar in September, which allows viewers to send money, or “tip”, creators as a thank you for the entertainment they provide. In November, Vimeo announced a new pay-to-view movie experience, and today they’ve launched Vimeo On Demand—a new platform that lets creators sell their work directly to their audiences.
Available to all Vimeo PRO members, “Vimeo On Demand empowers creators to sell their works directly to their audiences and retain 90 percent share of the revenue after transaction costs,” according to a press released. “In addition to its creator-friendly revenue share, Vimeo On Demand gives creators the flexibility and control to choose their price; select country-by-country availability; customize their page design; and offer content on Vimeo, their own website, or both.”
PRO creators can also select how long their content is available after purchase and whether they’d like to allow purchasers to download their content, as well as to set up a custom URL for their content on Vimeo.
Vimeo on Demand viewers can watch anywhere—online on their computers, on mobile devices (Android, iOS, Windows), tablets, connected TVs (Apple TV/Roku/Google TV/Xbox Live), and Smart TVs (Samsung/Panasonic/Phillips) all in HD quality.
Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor says, “Vimeo is committed to empowering creators with tools to display and distribute their work in beautiful HD quality. With the addition of Vimeo On Demand, creators can now use Vimeo to control the way they earn revenue and retain a significant portion of the proceeds.”
