Vodafone will soon be offering DRM-free music tracks from Universal, Sony and EMI through its mobile music service. This will give subscribers access to roughly a million MP3 tracks that they can buy from their PC or phone and copy and play on any device.
The tracks will only be available for individual or album purchases, and won’t be included in Vodafone’s MusicStation unlimited subscription service, MocoNews reports. Consumers who’ve already purchased DRM-protected versions of any of the tracks that are losing their DRM will be able to “upgrade” to the MP3 version at no charge.
Mobile users in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and New Zealand will be the first Vodafone customers with access to the MP3 tracks sometime this summer.
