Weird Interview Questions from Tech Companies

Out of all the bizarre interview questions that came out of’s list of “Top 25 Oddball Interview Questions for 2013,” some of the most unusual came from the hiring managers at technology companies like LivingSocial and Dell.

Candidates for these companies were asked to think beyond the roles they were applying for, to say the least.

Amazon: ”Jeff Bezos walks into your office and says you can have a million dollars to launch your best entrepreneurial idea. What is it?”

Salesforce: ”If you could be anyone else, who would it be?”

But not every company expects that much ambition from their interviewees. It turns out that your pop culture knowledge and even your karaoke skills can help you get a job building software.

LivingSocial: ”What’s your favorite song? Perform it for us now.”

Dell: ”What song best describes your work ethic?”

In a person-on-the-street interview with Glassdoor, a good answer to this last question came from Megan, a communications manager, who said, “‘Under Pressure,’ by Queen. Because I work really well under pressure.”

The most honest answer came from an IT manager named Jack: “‘Nine to Five,” he said. “Because I work nine to five.”

What’s the most unusual question you’ve ever been asked in a job interview?
