When Irish Times Are Smiling

The Irish Times cited data from ABC Electronic in claiming an 82 percent gain in individual users in November 2010 compared with the prior-year month, saying irishtimes.com drew nearly 3.9 million unique visitors for the month versus 2.1 million in November 2009.

Page impressions also recorded substantial growth, to 36.2 million in November 2010 from 26.1 million in November 2009, The Irish Times said.

Managing director Liam Kavanagh said:

Since we launched irishtimes.com as a free service in 2008, traffic to the site has almost tripled, reflecting the strength of demand among online consumers for quality Irish journalism.

In the past 12 months, it’s been particularly gratifying to see very strong growth in mobile traffic, driven by our apps for iPhone and Android, and in the number of paying subscribers to The Irish Times e-paper, which is now also available for iPad and iPhone.

These multiple platforms — Web, mobile, tablet, and e-paper — complement the print newspaper, which remains our core business. 2011 will see us continuing to innovate and grow our online audience in new and exciting ways.
