Which TV Shows’ Fans Are Most Likely to Be On Social Networks While Watching?

Television shows with the most Facebook fans aren’t necessarily the ones that draw the most presence on social networks while they air, according to a new study from Experian Simmons.

The study ranked the top 10 broadcast and cable shows in terms of percentage of social network users who were more likely to go online during the telecasts, and it included the number of Facebook fans for each show. All figures are as of May 16.

On the broadcast side, NBC’s Parks and Recreation topped the chart, with social network users 90 percent more likely to go online during the show, but only 380,660 Facebook fans. A&E Network’s Gene Simmons Family Jewels blew away the cable competition at 110 percent, also with a relatively low number of Facebook fans, 203,882.

Parks and Recreation was followed on Experian Simmons’ broadcast chart by: NBC’s The Office (83 percent, 7,855,379 Facebook fans), The CW’s America’s Next Top Model (67 percent, 4,033,036), The CW’s The Vampire Diaries (64 percent, 7,001,705), Fox’s Glee (53 percent, 13,760,707), Fox’s The Simpsons (51 percent, 26,250,133), Fox’s Family Guy (43 percent, 30,141,047), NBC’s Chuck (40 percent, 1,598,676), Fox’s The Cleveland Show (38 percent, 1,129,515), and NBC’s Community (36 percent, 739,935).

The KISS rock legend and his reality series were followed on the cable list by: FX’s Sons of Anarchy (81 percent, 902,133), Showtime’s Dexter (76 percent, 8,161,094), Comedy Central’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (72 percent, 203,187), MTV’s Jersey Shore (71 percent, 10,986,496), WEtv’s Amazing Wedding Cakes (59 percent, 25,283), TLC’s LA Ink (58 percent, 2,005,566), USA Network’s Psych (53 percent, 1,747,006), Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force (52 percent, 412,828), and Comedy Central’s Tosh.0 (51 percent, 5,084,862).
