White House Lands On Instagram

The White House today launched an Instagram account, Mr. Obama’s social media team tweeted.

The team is very careful about passing itself off as the actual voice of the president: Tweets posted by him are followed by “-bo.” Today’s tweet also included a disclosure that not all future Instagram photos will be #nofilter.

The Obama administration and the campaigns behind it have been widely praised as digitally savvy. The White House already runs accounts on Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and Vine, as well as Twitter.

It also has a Flickr account that hasn’t been updated since May 1.

But a politician would be foolish to choose one service over another, alienating the developers and fans of the loser. Our hunch is the White House sees Instagram as an easy way to cross-post to multiple services and to post both photo and video.
