The blog Streaming Media tested 12 Web sites today that were live streaming the Inauguration. The findings:
CBS has the best quality and most reliable stream. Others like MSNBC, C-SPAN and Hulu are some of the worst and at least a couple sites has videos that would not even load.
Other notes: CBS “has the best looking video quality by far with at least seven HD quality streams to choose from. Clean, crisp and great frame rate. FOX News: “the video was quite dull with subdued colors and quite a lot of pixelation.” New York Times: “decent video quality as long as you don’t want to enter full-screen mode.”
Streaming Media’s Dan Rayburn was also put in to the CNN.com Live “Waiting Room”
Beet.TV has the story on the “Waiting Room” from a CNN.com spokesperson:
“We built capacity for CNN.com Live to handle well above and beyond what was, to our knowledge, the most viewed live video event in Internet history. Anticipating that this would be a high traffic event concentrated in time, we arranged for a ‘Waiting Room,’ in order to queue people wanting to view as capacity became available without degrading the experience for CNN.com Live’s users’ active sessions.”
