Widbook Writing Community Marks 30k Members

Online writing community Widbook, which aims to be the “YouTube of books” now has 30,000 members in more than 200 countries. The Brazillian-based company, which launched last year, also announced today that they now have 1,100 eBooks published on the site, as well as 6,000 others in progress. The community has grown with the help of funding from W7 Brazil Capital, which kicked in in January.

Widbook was originally created as a tool for professors and students to collaborate on writing projects but the founders decided to tap into the growing self-publishing industry and expand the site. The website aims to help make writing more collaborative by facilitating writers with the ability to showcase their work and get feedback from readers and other authors. Publishers can use the site to scout for new talent and read manuscripts. Using the site is totally free.

“We recognized a need for this type of tool for authors and writers. The publishing industry receives hundreds of thousands of submissions each year and only a small fraction are reviewed,” stated founder Flavio Aguiar. “Widbook offers authors the option to bypass the publishing house altogether and its collaboration tools offer a unique way to connect and solicit feedback from fellow members, thus, improving writing.”
