WikiReader is on Sale Today – $20

Buy.com has an odd little eReader on sale today for $20. Of all the devices currently on the market, the WikiReader stands out.

This device is based round a 3″ low-power LCD screen. It ships with the nearly complete contents of Wikipedia. It doesn’t have Wifi, color, and it’s not designed to let you add your own eBooks.

It is designed to be an always present copy of Wikipedia. TBH, it’s never been clear what role this device was supposed to fill.  It’s pocketable and low power, so if there was ever a chance that you needed Wikipedia but don’t have access to a computer, this could fill the void. But honestly, how often do you need to check Wikipedia but not have access to a computer? It just doesn’t seem likely.

Still, it’s a fun toy to have.
