The app provides content from the daily print edition and the Web, along with breaking news alerts, access to past issues, and other features. No subscription fee is required.
The Times Leader said the only other newspaper in Pennsylvania with an iPad app is the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and its app is also free.
The Times Leader director of interactive and new media Nick DeLorenzo said:
By deploying this iPad app, we’ve expanded an already significant online and mobile presence, and we’re living up to our name. We’re the first media company in our area, and one of the first in the state, to offer an iPad app, just as we were the first area newspaper to launch an iPhone app. We’ve recently launched an Android app, as well. All of these services are free to the customer, just as our Web site is.
It’s exciting to follow the mobile applications that Pennsylvania newspapers are developing to adapt to today’s readers and their viewing preferences. Most newspaper Web sites are the predominant source for online news in their communities, and mobile apps are extending their reach to both new and existing readers.
