Windows Phone 7.5 Update Being Delivered. Feels Like My Phone is Faster & Better Now

Example of new Windows Phone 7.5 threaded messaging.

Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 (pre-launch codename “Mango”) was released as an update for the first generation Windows Phone 7 devices this week.

The schedule for updates in the U.S. can be found here:

Where’s my phone update?

Delivery has begun for the HTC Surround, LG Quantum, and Samsung Focus v. 1.3. The HTC HD7S is currently Scheduling, while the Samsung Focus v. 1.4 is Testing and the Dell Venue Pro is in Planning.

If your device is on the “currently being updated” list and can’t wait for your turn in the staggered update queue, WPCentral.com has a tip for forcing the update.

Force Mango update early through Zune software and avoid frostbite

This technique worked for me. But, your mileage may vary. The update went smoothly for me. It requires several downloads and reboots. So, be sure to block out enough time to wait for this process to finish. Do not try it 10 minutes before you need to leave to catch a plane! The People Hub Twitter integration worked right away after configuration. However, the existing Facebook People Hub integration did not work until about 15 to 20 minutes later. No intervention on my part was needed. It just seemed to need time to start working again.

One welcome surprise for me was that Windows Phone seems a bit faster after the update. Windows Phone 7.5 is a major update for the platform. You can learn what’s new in this Microsoft.com article.
