Food & Wine finally served up its debut iPad issue Thursday, and the American Express Publishing title said the digital issue was designed specifically for the Apple tablet, with original content and interactive layouts.
The debut issue is available free-of-charge via the App Store, and it focuses on wine and Italian-American cuisine, featuring cooking demos by big-name chefs, how-to videos, lessons from the Food & Wine Test Kitchen, recipes, images, and slideshows. The Canadian Tourism Commission is the exclusive advertiser.
American Express Publishing said it plans to release about six iPad issues per year, at $3.99 each.
Food & Wine editor-in-chief Dana Cowin said:
We are thrilled to debut our first app to iPad. It’s so exciting to see Food & Wine come to life in this way and to explore all the new ways readers can connect with our world — whether they’re watching Mario Batali demo his butchers’ ragù, learning how to create wine-friendly dishes in a tutorial with Michael Chiarello, or going behind the scenes to see where these star chefs hang out in their free time.
Vice president and publisher Christina Grdovic added:
We couldn’t be more excited that our partner, Canadian Tourism Commission, has shown their incredible support and confidence in our iPad launch. This gives them a fresh new way to reach avid travelers who appreciate great culinary experiences.
