Wired is lowering the price of the iPad app for its July issue to $3.99, from the $4.99 it charged for its June debut on the Apple tablet, also lowering the app for the June issue to the same price, AllThingsD reports.
Among new features introduced with the July issue app, according to AllThingsD: Clicking on links keeps users within the app, rather than opening the Safari browser; the size of the new issue is 340 megabytes, versus 550 MB for the June issue, but the physical issue itself is smaller; and the app will now function as a “wrapper,” meaning users who want to buy future issues will be able to download only the issue content, and not an entirely new app.
Wired editor Chris Anderson told AllThingsD:
I would say that right now, all of us have opinions about the perfect price. My feeling, my own personal instinct, is that digital should be at slight discount to print. If there’s any one kind of tub I’m thumping, that’s the one.
