The WordPress for iPhone blog announced that…

Version 1.21 Now Available

…and fixes a bug involving photo orientation that arose with the 1.20 release last week. Unfortunately, this release appears to be even buggier. Here’s what I found when I installed it on both an iPhone 3G and iPod touch (1st generation) – both are have firmware 2.2.1 installed.

I installed the 1.21 release over the earlier 1.1 release from last year. Both the iPhone 3G and iPod touch had my self-hosted WordPress blog configuration set and working with the WordPress for iPhone 1.1 release. But, here’s what I found:

- Upgrading over the 1.1 release with configuration information resulted in crashes on both devices shortly after WordPress for iPhone 1.21 started on either device.

- I uninstalled WordPress for iPhone 1.21 on both devices and then reinstalled it. This erased the existing configuration information.

- Version 1.21 started without crashing on both the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch after performing the uninstall/reinstall procedure described above.

- However, after entering the configuration information (site URL, account name and password) that worked in the past, I received this error message:

We could not find the XML-RPC service for your blog. Please check your network

- I even tried entering the full path to WordPress’ xmlrpc.php file. But, WordPress for iPhone 1.21 gave the same error message as shown above.

It looks like all I can do now is wait for the 1.22 update.
