Write Together: Google Docs Is Now Available for All Google+ Hangouts

Google+ Hangouts get better every day.  From cool new facial masks to appearances by the President, the Google+ Hangouts team is dedicated to bringing us new surprises and improving the way we video chat with one another.  The latest addition is the introduction of Google Docs into the Hangout experience.  It was a beta feature for the last few weeks, but it seems to be bug free and popular, and is now part of the core Google+ experience.

To use the feature, just start a Hangout, and while you’re in it you just click the “Docs” button and you get a list of available documents.  You have a few options to you once you’re in the Docs mode.

- you can add an existing document, or upload a new one
- added documents are available as a list on the left-hand side
- you can switch between and collaboratively edit multiple documents at once

As you can see in the image below, the document is edited by one person and the interface is pretty simple to use.

When you click open a document, everyone can see it and you can edit the image in front of everyone.  The workflow it facilitates is to talk about a document — a strategy document or trip itinerary — as you edit it live.  Very cool stuff.
