Yahoo Mail Taps Dropbox to Handle Attachments

dropbox, yahoo, email, cloud storage, file sharing, social media, social networksYahoo Mail now integrates with Dropbox to handle attachments, the two companies said today.

Yahoo is the first email client to offer such integration.

“Email attachments can be tricky: they’ve got file size limits, you can’t keep them updated, and when you add people to a thread, attachments are the first to get left behind. The Yahoo! Mail team decided to fix this—by integrating with Dropbox!” wrote Joshua Jenkins, a product designer at Dropbox.

For users, the integration will make their files available directly from Dropbox on any synched devices. It also means that files can exceed the 25 MB size limit, because they are hosted on Dropbox’s servers. Files will continue to be updated after they are sent.

A Dropbox interface is available within the Yahoo Mail interface.

To access the feature, users must first create a Dropbox account. Dropbox offers free accounts with a 2-gigabyte storage limit.

The integration is rolling out today for users who access Yahoo Mail in English, Spanish, French, German or Italian.
