Yahoo mail still boasts a substantial user base, making it an important component in any long-term turnaround plan.

The update focuses on eliminating “distractions” and allowing users to get through their email workflows faster.

“We’ve also made your inbox more intuitive and easier to navigate, allowing you to focus on what matters most: your messages. And, because mobile is everything these days, Yahoo! Mail now has a consistent look and feel across devices,” Mayer said.

Mobile apps for Windows 8, iPhone and Android are already available for download. The new experience will roll out to Web users “over the next few days,” Yahoo said.
