Yahoo will expand its data center in western New York, the company said today.

The company will expand the Lockport, New York, data center that it opened in 2010 and will take on more than 100 new employees in engineering, technology, and customer care roles. Lockport sits about 30 miles north of Buffalo.

The move is further evidence that CEO Marissa Mayer is making progress turning around the long-troubled company.

“We are happy to be a part of the Western New York community and are excited about our expansion plans. We are appreciative of our close partnerships with local municipalities and are grateful to our outstanding workforce in Lockport,” said David Dibble, executive vice president of central technology for Yahoo.

The Lockport data center runs on hydropower from Niagara Falls and is energy efficient, relying on outside air-cooling for virtually the entire year.
