Everything You Need To Know About YouTube Charts

YouTube LogoYouTube has just made it a whole lot easier to discover the top ranking videos and to see how different videos stack up against each other with the launch of YouTube Charts. YouTube Charts rank the top YouTube videos according to the number of views and likes, and rank the top YouTube channels according to most subscribed, giving users a clearer view of how different videos and creators measure up against one another. Read on to find out more about how YouTube Charts work and what can be gleaned from them.

For starters, you’ll need to know how to get to the YouTube Charts page. Before charts were introduces, YouTube offered sorting options within the Browse page that allowed you to sort videos according to Most Views, Most Subscribed and Most Popular by Day, Week, Month or of All Time. Now all of this is done by visiting the YouTube Charts page, which you can get to by clicking on “Most Viewed Today” from the Browse page.

As you can see by the screenshot below, YouTube Charts clearly rank videos in an organized list. The old Browse function also ranked videos in a similar fashion, but videos were not assigned number ranks and it was more difficult to see how different videos stacked up against one another.

YouTube Charts

From the YouTube Charts page, users can currently sort videos according to “Most Viewed”, “Most Subscribed” and “Most Liked”. “Most Subscribed” videos can be sorted by “This Week”, “This Month” or “All Time”. The other categories can also be sorted by “Today.”

YouTube Charts Sorting

On the YouTube blog, the video site hints that they plan to expand their charts, offering more ways to sort and rank videos. They ask for suggestions about which charts YouTubers would like to see, offering up Best Newcomer, Most Shared Video, and Fastest to a Million Views as examples. I for one think it would be cool if YouTube offered a chart ranking videos by how viral they are. Additionally, it would be cool if it was possible to sort videos by category (i.e. the most popular Comedy, Pets & Animals or Education videos).

What do you think of YouTube Charts? Do you have any suggestions for how YouTube could improve or add to their charts?
