The holidays are just around the corner and the pressure is on for you to come up with some unique and creative gift ideas for your friends and loved ones. Why not try gift-giving YouTube style this year? There are a ton of great DIY and How To videos on YouTube that take you through the process of creating original and affordable gifts, perfect for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, or just for fun!

Make Your Own Cards

Sometimes a homemade card can be the perfect solution when you want to show you care but don’t have a lot of money to spend. In this great tutorial from MAKE Magazine, Bre Pettis shows you three cool ideas for making creative home made cards, including woodblock prints, aluminum relief art, and long-exposure light photography.

Cookies

Baked goods are also a great way to put a smile on your friends’ faces (and love in their tummy) this holiday season. Learn how to make festive teddy bear cookies in the video below.

Photo Wallet

If you want to give your friend or loved one a gift that really captures your friendship and the memories you’ve shared together, a photo wallet is a great idea. In the video below you can learn how to create a photo wallet out of a piece of paper and some ribbon. Stick photo memories in eight different pockets.

Custom Journal or Sketchbook

A custom journal or sketchbook is also a great way to show how much you care, without having to spend a lot of money. In this video you can learn how to create an antique style sketchbook with photo memories on the cover. You can leave the book blank or write a story, draw pictures or create a scrapbook of memories inside.

How to Make a T-Shirt Bag

If you are trying to come up with a great idea for a cheap gift for your fashion savvy friend, why not make them a t-shirt bag? In this video you can learn how to make a no-sew bag using an old t-shirt, staples and duct tape. You can use an old shirt that you’ve got lying around the house, or head to your nearest thrift shop to find a cheap t-shirt that really fits your friend’s personality.

A Duct Tape Wallet

As an even cheaper alternative to the T-Shirt bag, you can create a wallet entirely out of Duct Tape. Use different colors to add personality to the wallet. These things look pretty cool. I plan to get some duct tape over the weekend and try to make one for myself! Embedding has been disabled for this video, so click here to watch.

DIY Gift Kits

Finally, I really like this idea from Chris of Curbly.com. Chris suggests that you make DIY gift kits for your friends, enabling them to do the making themselves. A lot of the ideas in this video are great for artists, but even if your friends aren’t artists the Make Your Own S’mores kit and the Make Your Own Snowman kit seem like great, cheap gift ideas.
