YouTube Creator Institute To Stream Live Starting Today

The YouTube Creator Institute is now in session and even if you aren’t attending in person, you can still take part via live streamed lectures, the first of which airs tonight.  Professors include all sorts of acclaimed directors, producers, comedians, musicians and YouTube Partners, including Jon Landau, Melissa Rosenberg, McG, MysteryGuitarMan, FreddieW and more.

YouTube announced the lineup of their live streamed professor lectures on the YouTube blog and the first lecture, by Academy Award-winning producer of Avatar and Titanic, Jon Landau, will be starting things on tonight, Wednesday May 24 at 7PM PT.  You can submit a question for Jon, and tune in to watch tonight on the USC School of Cinematic Arts YouTube channel.

Upcoming guest lecture dates are as follows, as listed on the YouTube Blog (check the blog for links):

May 31, 7PM PT: Melissa Rosenberg, Acclaimed Writer and Producer of the Twilight Saga, Dexter and many others

June 1: SuzAnn Branter, Head of Alternative Distribution and Marketing for Music, Film and Books at William Morris Endeavor

June 2, 7PM PT: MysteryGuitarMan and FreddieW, YouTube Partners with millions of subscribers and views

June 14, 7PM PT: McG, Director of Terminator Salvation and Charlie’s Angels, and Executive Producer of Supernatural, The OC and many others

July 7, 4PM PT: Barely Political, one of YouTube’s most subscribed channels and creators of Obama Girl, Key of Awesome and Autotune the News

YouTube announced their Creator Institute back in March.  At the beginning of May, the first class was announced.  Their videos, as well as those selected as part of the YouTube NextUp program can be viewed on the Creator Programs YouTube channel.  Both programs are part of the YouTube Next initiative, which came out of YouTube’s acquisition of Next New Networks.

According to Bing Chen, YouTube Creator Institute Lead, these programs “are part of the YouTube Next mission to supercharge creator development and accelerate Partner growth and success.  Each program has a uniquely-created curriculum, featuring the skills of each university to provide YouTubers with storytelling and production techniques, as well as new media skills to be successful in today’s media.”

I, for one, think it’s awesome that non-participants can also take advantage of the knowledge imparted by these big-name lecturers, asking questions and watching the live streams.  Will you be watching?
