YouTube Starts Letting Creators Link Videos To Indiegogo & Kickstarter Fundraising Pages

It just became a whole lot easier for YouTube creators to raise funds for Kickstarter and Indigogo projects via YouTube.  Yesterday YouTube announced that creators can now link directly to fundraising pages on Kickstarter or Indigogo through YouTube Annotations.

For those that aren’t familiar, YouTube Annotations are the nifty little interactive doohickeys that let you add text on top of videos and link a video to other videos, subscriber pages, playlists, channel pages and other pages within YouTube.  Unless you are a major brand, annotations have only let you link to other pages within YouTube thus far.  However, with this announcement creators will now be able to link their videos to pages on Kickstarter.com and Indigogo.com.

Check out the video below, a Kickstarter campaign for YouTuber Dan Dobi’s documentary film ‘Please Subscribe,’ to see this new feature in action and then read on to find out more.

YouTube product manager Andy Stack writes on the YouTube Creator blog, “We’ve been inspired by creators who have funded projects through these platforms, like Freddie Wong’s Video Game High School and James Rolfe’s Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, and we hope this helps many more of you launch the projects you’ve been dreaming about.”

To get things set up, head over to your Video Manager, click ‘Edit’ and then select Annotations.  There is now a new option to add any existing Kickstarter or Indiegogo project page to your video, as you can see in the screenshot below.

Do you think you’ll be using this feature?
