Today Zynga unveiled its newest game, CityVille, which lets players build their dream city while trading with neighbors. CityVille will premiere in 5 different languages: English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, making it the social gaming powerhouse’s first international launch. More after the jump.
As rulers of their domain, Players will be solely responsible for its growth and success. From carefully planning their cities to ensuring a constant influx of supply, players will slowly manage their city as it becomes a bustling empire with tons of customizations and social connections to neighboring cities for trade. CityVille also features Zynga’s first 3D-rendered buildings and characters and represents the most interactive Zynga game board to date.
We can be sure that Zynga is using the best of Frontierville and learnings from other titles and putting it into CityVille. Zynga has not launched a city builder to date – and for a good reason. Most city games tend to be clones and we can sense that Zynga is striving for long term appeal by integrating mechanics that force the player to focus strongly on commerce and trade with neighboring cities.
“CityVille is where Monopoly meets Main Street,” said Sean Kelly, GM of CityVille. “We are thrilled to bring the world our most social game to date – building on the best-of-breed gameplay that Zynga fine-tuned with FarmVille and FrontierVille. Instead of harvesting crops you’re harvesting your neighborhood, instead of clearing your friend’s frontier you’re working on a friend’s franchise. We hope players from around the world have as much fun playing CityVille as we had building it.”
Although the game is in beta, Zynga has announced a number of features that it will be including:
a. City Building – players will clear land, assemble roads, build stores and service departments that will continue to increase the city’s population and income.
b. City Management – A well planned city layout will make residents happy through easy access to restaurants and other businesses.
c. People – There will be a variety of people and professions such as business owners and police officers to keep the city in good shape. More people will become available as the city grows.
d. Goods & Trading – Players can do a variety of things like sending ships to import goods from international locations that increase the cultural awareness of the city. Players can also buy more land and storage spaces as the city expands.
e. Neighbors – Players can visit neighbors and perform some activity that benefits their friends and themselves. This is an area where Zynga will innovate and add to the visiting feature found in FrontierVille, creating interesting social engagements such as owning locations in their friends’ cities.
f. Commerce & City – Players will be able to buy and sell goods via trains and ships that run between cities.
g. Guided Play – This is commonly found in games as some sort of ‘guide’ instructs players on missions and to-do tasks, rewarding them with items and decorations as they progress.
Although the date is not yet fully disclosed, CityVille will be available in beta in the coming weeks.
