YouTube stars can generate billions of views and earn millions of subscribers on the video-sharing platform. This infographic takes a closer look at the top video creators and the audience members who watch them. What do they all have in common?
In general, the most popular YouTube personalities are similar to their viewers in age and other demographic information, they use their social networks to promote their videos, they respond to their viewers’ questions and comments, and they post videos frequently. That said, if you post good videos like the Gregory Brothers (Schmoyoho) do, you don’t need quite as many videos to build a following.
As for the viewers, 67 percent of U.S. viewers are between the ages of 18 and 34, but 70 percent of views come from outside the United States. There’s a fairly even split between men (58 percent) and women (57 percent) overall, but this can vary by channel. “Girls On YouTube“ creator Benjamin Cook, who documents YouTubers on his channel ninebrassmonkeys, said that 82.4 percent of his viewers are female and that just over half are aged 13 to 17.
